THAT Instagram update that’s changing the game

Share what you love: Global “Friends” Tab.
Instagram has introduced a new “Friends” section embedded within Reels that lets you view public content liked, posted, commented and reposted by your friends. The function allows users to view what their following list are watching, engaging with and interested in.
For those who love to silently lurk, Instagram has got you. You can mute any activity you don’t want to see, as well as being able to hide your own activity.

Keeping tabs just got easier: Instagram Maps
Alongside the “Friends” tab, is the Instagram Map feature. Similar to platforms like Snapchat, Instagram is now letting users share their location with their friends, so meeting up at festivals just got a whole lot easier.
The map is also set to include a discovery feature, allowing users to discover location-based content posted by friends and followed accounts, and add notes or messages on the map for their friends to view.
The “Friends” tab feature will also allow for sharing your location through DMs, however, unlike Snap Map this feature will have a one hour time limit of sharing to alleviate privacy concerns.

Reposts? Yes please.
And finally, Instagram has launched a repost function that allows users to reshare and repost public Reels and posts to their followers. This feature aims to allow the user to share their interests with friends, whilst for creators it aims to broaden their audience.
Reposted content will also have its own tab on users’ accounts for easy access, also being able to add a short message before reposting.

So, how can you utilise these features for your content creation?
Being able to access posts and reels by location will be a game changer for community-driven content. Imagine, creating a social-first campaign that can be pinpointed on Instagram maps for users to contribute to by area. Increased presence = increased brand awareness.
The same concept goes for being able to see what your friends are liking, viewing and commenting on. It has never been easier to stay connected with your audience and appear to their followers. Accessibility like never before, being able to infiltrate spaces perhaps unexplored.
Finally, reposts will offer a massive increase in reach. Not only will your content appear on users profiles, it’ll appear in your followers’ feed and give you a visibility boost like no other. This also means that all of the views and engagement will be attributed to you – the original creator.
